Cheonseongsan Eurasia Sunrise Trail in South Korea Description

The Yangsan Urban Culture Research Institute (YUCI) is a non-profit dedicated to sustainable urban culture through walking, ecology, and cultural engagement in South Korea.
Since 2023, it has hosted the annual Mt. Cheonseong Eco-Forest Trail Walking Festival, promoting eco-friendly trekking routes that connect hikers with Yangsan’s spiritual and natural heritage.
Mt. Cheonseong, celebrated as the site of the first sunrise on the Eurasian continent, is a premier cultural and ecological landmark.
Mt. Cheonseong has a rare, high-altitude wetland that serves as a vital ecological treasure, home to numerous endangered species and vibrant flora. In autumn, the mountain’s expansive plateaus turn into a shimmering sea of silver grass, creating a dreamlike atmosphere for trekkers.
The mountain is steeped in Buddhist history, most notably associated with the Great Monk Wonhyo, who is said to have taught 1,000 disciples here, giving the mountain its name (“Cheonseong” meaning “Thousand Saints”).
Trekking on Mt. Cheonseongsan is an exploration of Korea’s “K-Trail” culture—where the path under your feet tells a story of a thousand years, and the wind through the silver grass carries the wisdom of the past.
