Trail Description

sub_tab_m_39_logoThe idea for an Appalachian Trail was conceived by forester and regional planner Benton MacKaye in 1921 as a respite from rapid urbanization, and as a connection to and among thriving, sustainable rural communities. MacKaye’s vision became a reality in subsequent years by a group of highly dedicated volunteer leaders. The trail was completed in 1937.
