What makes Notes on Walking special?

Each issue is a 36-page guide designed to be a keep-forever object, with timeless styling, textured paper stock and tactile curved edges. Features are a mix of long-form journalism and practical information, illustrated with bespoke photography and artwork. Inspired by 18th-century travel literature, this is a deliberately analogue object; an antidote to transient digital scrolling. Copies will be distributed to Ernest readers, with additional copies available for further distribution or for sale by partner brands, or as promotional gifts.

Notes on Walking blends practical information with sensitive insights into local culture, heritage and ecology. The authors invite readers to explore using applied practice, sensitive to place: through wild-walking, camping, storytelling and ceremony, suggesting experiences to help readers connect with these trailscapes in a personal and participatory way, intrinsically embedded with a deep conservation ethic.

We are inviting brands and trail destinations who share our collective values in slow adventure, curiosity and conscious travel to partner with us on this special collaboration.
