Drakensberg Trails Description
The Maloti-Drakensberg Transfrontier Park and World Heritage Site boasts over 1500 km of trails in the Drakensberg Mountains in the Republic of South Africa and the Maloti Mountains in the Kingdom of Lesotho.
The Park has a wealth of cultural and natural heritage with many archaeological sites and a high diversity of rare, endemic and endangered species. The trails in the Park vary in distance, difficulty grading and altitude (1600 m – 3200 m above sea level). Hikers can make use of mountain huts in the 250 000 ha Park or can overnight in numerous caves throughout the area.
Chalet, hotel and camping accommodation is also available in the Park and on the boundary of the Park. The Giants Cup Hiking Trail is a Green Flag Trail within the Park.
